This course will provide the building blocks needed to understand fair housing laws and properly practice real estate without violating them. This course will breakdown the sources of law that regulate fair housing and review the definitions of the protected classes under federal and state and outline the enforcement process. After discussing ethical issues, the class will do a deep dive into specific fair housing issues, including assistance animals, hoarding, tenant selection criteria, harassment, and advertising. Throughout the course, we will look at real-life recent fair housing cases and discuss how the law applied in each instance.
